What is ADAS Re-Calibration?
Re-Calibration is the process of returning a vehicle’s ADAS to the manufacturers OEM specifications guaranteeing all the safety systems operate correctly.
When damage occurs to your vehicle or you need a windshield replacement, nearly all automakers specify that these camera systems be re-calibrated.
Due to the precise nature and aiming of the camera, the difference of even a few millimeters in the mounting could mean the system is off by feet at the distance it is designed to recognize and your safety could be jeopardized.
The correct aiming of the camera is critical to the proper functioning of the entire ADAS system, not just the forward looking camera.
How is Re-Calibration done?
There are two basic processes for Re-Calibration. Different manufacturers require either a Static or Dynamic process be performed and for some vehicles both are required.
What if I choose not to re-calibrate my ADAS?
If a car's ADAS system is not re-calibrated, the system may not function properly and your safety is at risk.
Remember, if the aiming of the cameras, radars, and lasers on the vehicle are off by even a few millimeters readings the systems are designed to detect at a distance could be off by feet.
In some cases a miss-aligned camera can actually pull you car into on-coming traffic or not be able to initiate stopping in time to avoid an accident.
Because this technology is still pretty new, questions still remain as to whether vehicle warranties will be honored or insurance companies will be responsible for accidents if ADAS systems are not maintained.
A properly re-calibrated ADAS system will meet the manufacturer's OEM specifications and provide all the safety features your vehicle was designed for.
